A threat to Microsoft's hegemony?According to Ubuntu and Its Leader Set Sights on the Mainstream - NYTimes.com "More than 10 million people are estimated to run Ubuntu today, and they represent a threat to Microsoft’s hegemony in developed countries and perhaps even more so in those regions catching up to the technology revolution." How cools is that? Ok, the article is more about Mark Shuttleworth, the founder of the Ubuntu project. With all of the hype about Microsoft allowing people to download beta versions of Windows 7, it is nice to see media play for something other than Windows. Ubuntu is one of the more popular Linux distributions available today. Ubuntu and Linux are Open Source and maintained by developers around the world. A fresh version of Ubuntu and it's variants are available every six months. |
