Installation of Kubuntu Jaunty Alpha 6As a follow up to Dual Booting Kubuntu and Windows I used the same procedure to install Kubuntu Jaunty Alpha 6 to my laptop in place of Kubuntu 8.10. ... After the installation my first task was to connect to my wireless network. Alpha 6 contains the new plasma-widget-network-manager. It took me a little bit of time to get connected, probably due to operator error. I created a new wireless connection, entered the SSID and Security information and selected connect automatically. I didn't see any way to connect. Finally I closed the Manage Network Connections window and clicked on the widget. The pop-up showed the two radios in the area. Clicking on my wireless network and I was connected. If I hadn't already created the connection it would have displayed a "Add A Connection" window which would have allowed me to name the connection and enter the security parameters. I created /mnt/windrive and added the entry in /etc/fstab that will automatically mount the Windows drive. I then went to /home/jim and deleted the Documents folder and created a link to the My Documents in my Windows profile. I renamed this link Documents. The reason for all of this is to make the Documents folder in my Kubuntu login the same as My Documents in the Windows login. Alpha 6 brings us a new software manager , KPackageKit. I used it to install Gimp, openssh-server and Scribus. No problems. Post Note: I have been running Alpha 6 for 5 days now and it is doing pretty good. I have had KBluetooth crash a few times. I think only once did it take KDE with it. I've submitted bug reports and carried on. Just have to make sure to save regularly. Lastly, I copied files from my previous Kubuntu install back to my home directory. Tags: jaunty alpha 6, kubuntu
