I just wrote and article on the release of KDE 4.2. While researching for the article I came across the fact that KDE applications may also be installed on Windows. That piqued my interest. So I pulled a PC out of storage to experiment with. The machine I am using was purchased from a local school auction. It is loaded with Windows XP Professional SP2, incorporates a 2.3 GHZ Intel processor and 256 MB of RAM.

My first step was to proceed to Download the KDE for Windows Installer. I choose to run the application instead of downloading it. The installer came up and presented a series of screens to choose the mirror to download from as well as the language and applications to install. You may view the KDE Installer Screen Shots for a quick overview.

So what did I achieve? The installation is over and I now have a number of new applications. There are a bunch of new games if you are tired of the Windows games. Under the Graphics sub-menu there is an application called KRuler that puts a ruler on your screen. That might come in handy... will have to install that on my machine. Amarok audio player is a very respectable media player and immediately played an MP3 file. I didn't see a list of applications on the KDE site, but looking at what was installed, there are 33 applications in the Games menu alone.
