I was curious about a new phenomenon that seems to be getting some attention of late. Chatroulette is a new web chat site that allows people to view / chat with other people and at the push of the button can randomly connect with a new person. At first I thought it is a great idea. The reality is it seems to really be a waste of time for the most part. There are a lot of really bored men, a lot of giggly boys, a few curious young girls, quite a vew pervs and a very few who are really interested in chatting. In just a few minutes time it seems like I can go through several dozen connections. Usually I barely get a picture from the other webcam (maybe a frown) before I get the message that my partner has disconnected and it is Reconnecting... (to someone new). Then it seems someone came up with a new idea and built a site where one can print out bingo cards based on images from around the Chatroulette cyberspace. It seems folk from Eruope are the ones most interested in carrying on a conversation. I have chatted with several people from France and one from Germany. I have also chatted with a nice lady from Austin. One of the bad things about this is if one finds someone they would like to reconnect with they had better exchange email addresses or something because once they are gone... they are gone. PS... it seems everyone is trying to get in on the fun. It seems there are at least a couple of chatroulette bingo sites and even a Polish video roulette. And yes.... it seems there are a lot of folk writing about Chatroulette. 03/26/10
I seem to be on a roll here so this article will cover the installation of Linux Mint XFCE on a virtual machine. I am using Sun's VirtualBox to create the virtual machine. VirtualBox just works great and continues to improve with every update. Linux Mint XFCE RC1 was announced on 3/7/2010. Based on Xubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala, Linux 2.6.31, Xfce 4.6.1 and Xorg 7.4, Linux Mint 8 “Helena” Xfce CE features a lot of improvements and the latest software from the Open Source World. For a detailed overview of the new features and improvements included in Linux Mint 8 Xfce, please read “What’s new in Helena Xfce?“. It should be noted that this version is not advertised as a lightweight version. I'll go ahead and walk through the steps of creating a virtual machine and boot up on the ISO image that I downloaded from the XFCE page. 03/22/10
As I was writing about the release of Linux Mint LXDE it occurred to me that I had not written the article on the release of Linux Mint Fluxbox. This release has been built with the emphasis on a lightweight and yet fully functional desktop centered on the Fluxbox window manager. The difference between Linux Mint and Ubuntu is the Linux Mint team makes improvements . For a detailed overview of the new features and improvements included in Linux Mint 8 Fluxbox, please read “What’s new in Helena Fluxbox?“. 03/19/10
The Linux Mint team announced the release of Linux Mint 8 “Helena” LXDE Community Edition RC1 a few days ago. I built a virtualbox machine to test it and here is what I found. The LXDE Community Edition is based on Linux Mint 8 Main Edition, Linux 2.6.31, Openbox 3.4.7.2, PCManFM 0.5.2, and Xorg 7.4. Linux Mint 8 LXDE Edition features a complete and familiar desktop experience while being low on resource usage and is suitable for a good variety of older hardware. 03/13/10
This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Tony's Pizza. All opinions are 100% mine. Awhile back I received a call asking if I would like to try out some free Tony's Pizza and write about it. Well I don't believe I have ever been asked that question before so of course I said "Sure thing!". I received the coupons in the mail and laid them on the counter so we could go to the store to pick them up and .... well I don't know what happened to them. We looked everywhere..... so I went to the store and bought some.
